Background

In Taiwan, most people's garbage is collected regularly by garbage trucks at designated locations. However, there are some inconvenience, for example: people often have to wait in long lines to take out the garbage, miss the garbage truck due to traffic jams after get off work, and people’s time is tied up because they have to wait for the garbage truck.

Therefore, our team hope to design an experience that can help people have a more flexible time while taking out the trash.

Target audience

Office workers who commute

People who come home late due to commuting time or working overtime. By the time they got home they had missed the garbage truck and couldn't take out the trash.

College students renting housing off campus

There is no community garbage dump in the rental house. They have to go back to the rental house to take out the garbage when the garbage truck comes. However, the time may conflict with the class, which is very inconvenient.

User Journey Map & Competitive Audit

This picture is the user journey map and our initial solution idea. After discussions with teacher and other classmates, our team came up with a second solution with different approach.
Our team found three competing products to analyze and understand how others were trying to solve this problem.

Due to limited time, we decided to design a minimum viable product and focus on the main function first.

Our product provides 24-hour garbage bins, allowing users who purchase the service to take out the garbage at any time without waiting in line for the garbage truck to arrive.

Designing phase

We have a total of seven members, one is responsible for the UI guildline and the logo design, three are responsible for the wireframe, and other three are responsible for the mockup and prototype. I’m in the group that in charge of the mockup and prototype.

Although we are responsible for different parts of the design phase, we are all involved in discussions and exchanging ideas at every stage. This helps us quickly adjust and design our interface.

User Interface

Users can purchase service plans at the bottom of the homepage. The QR code on the homepage will be obtained after purchasing the service, and they can use this QR code to access the 24-hour trash bin.

Users need to purchase special garbage bags and use them to take out garbage.Within the app, users can also check the nearest bin location and navigate.

Users can view our FAQs and get some answers. If the problem is not listed in the FAQs, users can also contact us through customer service or other listed channels.

Iteration

The garbage bins’ capacity will be an important information to users and should be displayed on the map so that they will be able to know before taking out thier trash.

When dedicated garbage bags are not enough, users should have an option to purchase additional bags. Since service fees are not included, this service is only provided to subscribers.
